Looks like the Indianapolis Colts will have someone new controlling the NFL's worst run defense in the history of football in Larry Coyer today.
Coyer inherits the NFL's worst run defense ever assembled starting with the defensive line, where all the defensive tackles are 260lbs. "HELLO have you heard that was good back in the 1970's?" But nowadays most of the Defensive Tackles are 300 plus pounds. Coyer has been in the college ranks for most of his career, before going to the Denver Broncos for 4 years and then with the Tampa Bay Buccanneers for 2 years.
As a die hard Indianapolis Colts fan, I'm not holding judgement until Coyer tells GM Bill Polian to draft 330lb defensive tackles to help stuff the run. If they can stop the run, then Peyton can get on the field more often and win games and Super Bowls.
Overall, I want the Colts to get bigger on defense. Enough of the short guys playing unless it's Dwight Freeney and Bob Sanders. If there's one thing the Colts need to do in the upcoming 2009 NFL Draft, it's draft two big hoss defensive tackles.
There are several candidates for the Colts to draft this year in the 2009 NFL Draft to stop the run. Ole Miss DT Peria Jerry, USC DT Fili Moloa, Missouri DT Evander Hood, Boston College DT Ron Brace could be good picks for the Colts. I would like to for the Colts to get Jerry and Moloa to plug up the gaps in the line. Let's just hope Coyer can get the Colts to stop the run and get bigger.

As a die hard Colts fan I must say, you are idiotic for saying the Colts have the worst run defense ever assembled. Sounds like you're more of a fair weather fan than anything
ReplyDeleteWell look who it is the guy that bashes every post we make on here. Why don't you just take a chill pill. I'm not a fair weather fan at all. I've been a fan ever since the Jim Harbaugh days. I have never missed a snap during Peyton's career. I'm just stating the obvious here that it's the worst run defense ever. If you have been watching the Colts play like I have. Teams we play against are running the ball at ease against us. We can't stop the run one bit. If we can get bigger on defense we can stop the run and get the best player in football in Peyton on the field to lead us to victory to play Colts Football. Which is Peyton picking apart the defense and letting Freeney and Mathis rush the quarterback on defense. Instead we can't get the defense off the field because of our lack of stopping the run. If we had 2 300 plus pound DT's it would be a different story. But until that happens Peyton won't get the ball much. Thats how the Colts win Championships with Peyton on the field all the time. If Peyton and the offense can get on the field we will win more Super Bowls that the Pittsburgh Steelers.
ReplyDeleteI do not bash every post on here, I actually enjoy reading this stuff and debating knowledgeable sports fans like yourselves.
ReplyDeleteLook at the year the Colts did win the Super Bowl... Sure the defense was trash all season long, but in the playoffs they were absolutely AMAZING. I will agree with you on one point, which is maybe our DTs need to be a little bigger, because the Super Bowl year big Corey Simon and Booger Mcfarland were plugging up the middle, but other than them we had the same "tiny" guys on defense we have now. The Colts Defense is small for sure, but I bet you can't find a faster defense in the league. To say the Colts had the worst run defense in the history of the NFL is ridiculous. Most years it isn't even the worst in the league. If it was as bad as you imply it is, not even a player as great as Peyton Manning, who is one of the greatest of all time, would be able to continuously lead the Colts to 12 wins every season.
